‘Lagos,’ the first track on Seyi Vibez‘ recently released extended play “Loseyi Professor,” portrays a tragic lose-lose story for the characters involved—Abobi, Soldier’s Wife, and Soldier. Five days after the EP’s release, Seyi Vibez released the official music video for “Lagos.” The music video unites Seyi Vibez’ superb narrative with the masterful execution of the story as seen through the lenses of award-winning music video director TG Omori. The music video vividly illustrates what transpired on the track and clears up the fog on how Abobi and the soldier’s story ended. This writer has long been displeased with how populated TG Omori videos are, but on “Lagos,” the demeanour of every performer echoes each lyric.
The video begins with Seyi Vibez in the witness box before a court martial as he gives an account of the story while the accused soldier glares at him from across. The mood is melancholic, as the record already suggests, but the strong presence of the men in uniform adds tension to the visuals. TG Omori delivers the story in chunks, which is not his fault, but rather how Seyi Vibez tells it through proverbs and digressions.
The highlight of the video is an expansive view of the artist and officers on a barren tree against velvet-coloured skies. The splattering of Abobi’s blood towards the camera was also a lovely shot, no pun intended. Towards the end of the video, TG Omori showed a flashback of how the soldier discovered Abobi’s affair with his wife. The soldier was sentenced, and a closer look at the President of the Court-Martial’s mouth indicates that he yelled, “TAKE HIM AWAY.”
TG Omori did excellently well with this one. The video highlights his brilliant angles and knack for exceptional shots, should he decide to be a celebrity photographer tomorrow.
