Sean “Diddy” Combs’ assault of Cassie Ventura earned him a mention in Uncle Murda‘s 2023 recap, yet, the mounting allegations and criminal charges levied against the mogul made him a key topic of discussion on “Rap Up 2024.”

From video of his vicious beatdown of Ventura being revealed, to accusations of the Bad Boy founder sexually assaulting multiple men and women throughout his career, Combs has all but lost the benefit of doubt and turned into the most popular punchline of the year.

Speculation over the contents of his alleged “Freak Off” tapes are also mentioned, with many eager to know of the potential figures who participated in the alleged drug-fueled romps. 

JAY-Z

Currently regarded as an industry pariah, the majority of Combs’ network of associates have seemingly abandoned him, save for former Bad Boy producer Stevie J.

The Hitmen member was spotted with Diddy prior to his arrest and has publicly spoken out on his behalf amid the heinous allegations against him. On the other hand, JAY-Z has distanced himself from Combs, particularly after Hov was accused of sexually assaulting a teenager at an MTV Video Music Awards after party nearly 25 years ago.

The Brooklyn bred mogul would immediately refute the allegations and the accuser’s story would be found to have inconsistencies, rendering her credibility as questionable, to say the least.

J. Cole

The beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake captivated the music world during the second quarter of 2024, but the duel almost became a three-way match upon the release of J. Cole’s Might Delete Later project.

Released in the wake of being mentioned by Kendrick on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” Cole unleashed his own diss record, “7 Minute Drill,” taking aim at K. Dot, albeit in a more passive manner.

However, Cole quickly had a change of heart, literally deleting the song from existence and issuing a public apology to Kendrick at his annual Dreamville Festival concert.

Safe to say, the move didn’t go over well with fans, who voiced their disappointment online and elsewhere, all but denying him of contention for being Hip-Hop’s lyrical king.

Rick Ross

Another footnote in the feud between Kendrick and Drake was Rick Ross’ involvement, as The Bawse seemingly took sides against his former collaborator. This lead Drake to send shots at him on the diss track “Push Ups.”

Undeterred, Ross clapped back on “Champagne Moments,” poking fun at Drake’s ethnic background amid other slights. Rozay’s jabs apparently came back to haunt him, as he and his entourage would end up on the losing end of a brawl in Drake’s hometown, a moment certainly unworthy of popped bottles.

Remy Ma And Papoose

Once regarded among the beacons of Black love in the modern era, Remy Ma and Papoose’s fairytale ending has shattered before the world’s eyes, as Remy was discovered to have stepped out on her marriage by cheating with battle rapper Eazy The Block Captain.

Pap remained mum on the situation, even amid rumors that he physically assaulted Eazy The Block Captain at a battle rap event. The tea spilled over when Remy Ma went on a social media tirade, outing Papoose for his new relationship with Olympian and boxing champion Claressa Shields.

This led to the couple, who remain married, going back and forth, leaking text messages and photos of each other with their respective companions. While the drama seems to have simmered, it remains to be seen if this lover’s quarrel will continue to unfold.

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion became a sympathetic figure to many fans after being shot in the foot by Tory Lanez in July 2020, a crime which the rapper was sentenced to 10 years in prison for.

Yet, a large segment of the Hip-Hop community believed that there was more to the story and that Megan had not been fully truthful in her account of the events that led to the shooting.

Many fans pointed to an interview Thee Stallion did with Gayle King in which she denied having a sexual relationship with Tory Lanez, a claim that she later confessed was a lie in her In Her Words documentary.

Thee Stallion is said to have fallen out with other celebrities due to her alleged toxic behavior, including Nicki Minaj, whom she worked with prior to teaming up with Nicki’s nemesis, Cardi B, for the chart-topping hit,  “W.A.P.,” and its follow-up, “Bongos.” 

Lil Wayne

Another huge storyline that dominated fall and will surely bleed into 2025 is Lil Wayne being snubbed for the NFL’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. The slot went to Kendrick Lamar, likely on account of his track record of hits and the monstrous year he enjoyed due to his war of words with Drake.

Being that Super Bowl LIX will be held in Weezy’s hometown of New Orleans, and that the hitmaker has more Billboard hits than Lamar by a wide margin, a large segment of the Hip-Hop community argued on his behalf, with one of his most vocal supporters being Nicki Minaj.

The Queens native and Young Money alum lashed out at JAY-Z and Roc Nation, as they are responsible for curating the Super Bowl Halftime Show, attributing Wayne being denied the opportunity due to tensions between JAY-Z and Birdman, Drake, and herself.

However, Wayne has yet to publicly show any bitterness or resentment towards Hov himself, as his rap hero and former collaborator once helped him cover his tax debts, which Weezy revealed back in 2018.

Joe Budden

A last minute inclusion on this year’s “Rap Up” was a bizarre incident involving podcaster Joe Budden, who was charged with disorderly lewdness after being captured on camera attempting to enter a neighbor’s apartment while naked.

The former rapper vaguely addressed the incident on his podcast, claiming that he had slept walked while naked, but fans remained skeptical of that explanation, with some speculating that the New Jersey rep was either intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.

Whatever the case, Uncle Murda felt the need to bring the incident to the public’s attention, going as far as adding a few acapella bars detailing Budden’s explicit mishap.
