Kendrick Lamar continues his 2024 streak with surprise album GNX. Teasing the work in a clip issued minutes before the official release, the Compton chart-topper is posed in front of an all-black 1987 Buick Grand National Experimental (GNX), the sleek coupe referenced in the album title.
While rumors of a K. Dot album have plagued social media since he was named the headlining act for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in September, fans inched closer to the edges of their seats when SZA hinted at a complete work in October.
His springtime sparring match with Drake resulted in ultimate wins for Kendrick Lamar, with “Not Like Us” earning multiple Grammy nominations, also adding to the anticipation for a new album. Still, Hip-Hop listeners know that the 37-year-old moves on his terms, and the release of GNX is no different.
Through 12 tracks, the acclaimed rapper addresses a variety of subjects such as the aforementioned Super Bowl announcement and flack from Lil Wayne, working with and learning from Ab-Soul, rap beef, his desires beyond music, and more. And he does not do it alone. The California native included a talented roster of artists to complete GNX.
