Usually, it’s Joe Budden lambasting people for their public errors but the closing of 2024 took on the form of an Uno reverse card in his life. The 44-year-old podcaster addressed fans for their reactions to his lewdness and nudity charges.
Budden was charged for standing naked outside of his neighbor’s door and trying to enter a code to get into their apartment. The incident reportedly took place on Dec. 4, but Edgewater Police Department in New Jersey didn’t address it publicly until Dec. 31.
The retired rapper attempted to downplay the entire situation on X, writing, “Y’all so dramatic lol.” On Instagram, he shared a meme of former NBA player Jeff Teague making an astonished face while showing someone his phone, seemingly conveying that the situation wasn’t all that people made it seem. However, it must be pretty significant because the last few episodes of The Joe Budden Podcast have been recorded at his co-host Parks’ home, their old recording space, as opposed to Budden’s apartment.
On a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, Joe Budden explained what happened after the alleged incident but before the press release came out. “I just sleptwalk somewhere that I shouldn’t have sleptwalked,” he said. “And you know how I sleep: butt-a** [naked]! Good naked sleepwalking, I just did it again [laughs].”
His attorney, Nima Ameri, shared a statement with TMZ about the scenario. “Mr. Budden is saddened by Police Chief Martin’s press release,” she said. “Mr. Budden has been waiting weeks for his cross complaints to be processed which include substantially more serious charges [including] possible felony charges against the persons behind these charges against him.”
Budden and his team believe Chief Martin is looking to gain clout off of this situation. “The Chief has, in our opinion, sat on those [complaints] but instead used his time to gain some free publicity for himself,” they stated. “Chief Martin should seek publicity by doing notable policing not inflaming disorderly person allegations. The allegations against Mr. Budden are a minor charge, not even resulting in an arrest. A charge Mr. Budden is looking forward to beating in court on the merits, not in the press. The Chief’s comments are reckless, and, in our opinion, racially motivated.”
