Colman Domingo recently revealed that he met with Marvel executives to address rumors of him potentially replacing Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Domingo said he felt the urge to reach out to Marvel amid speculation of the re-cast becoming rampant across social media platforms.

“When it was constantly in the press and on places like Twitter, I was like, ‘Wait a minute. Is this true? Am I being talked about for Kang?’” he explained to host Josh Horowitz.

Concerned and curious, Domingo reached out to his team, directly, asking “Are you guys having conversations that I have no idea about?” His team reassured him that they had no knowledge of such discussions.

However, there had been talks about Domingo joining Marvel in some capacity, leading him to arrange a meeting with Marvel executives. “We did follow up with a sit-down meeting with the heads of Marvel. I did do that,” Domingo said.

During this meeting, the actor discussed the landscape of Marvel and the rumors surrounding Kang. Despite the rumors swirling around him taking over the iconic role, Domingo made it clear that he wasn’t interested in replacing Majors or anyone else.

“I want to build something from the ground up that is my own,” he stated. He emphasized that while the idea of stepping into Kang’s shoes didn’t appeal to him, he was still open to exploring other opportunities within the Marvel Universe.

Domingo further clarified that it was “never a conversation” about him taking on Kang specifically. His focus remained on creating a role that felt uniquely his own.

“I want to do things that make sense and bring gentle energy,” he said. Though the discussions are ongoing, Domingo’s desire to build a fresh, original character is a central factor in his approach to any potential Marvel involvement.
