Whether it’s shutting down social media critics, clapping back at fellow rappers, or calling out those who fail to give Lil Wayne his due credit, his eldest daughter, Reginae, has always protected her father’s legacy.
The 26-year-old recently fired back at those criticizing his Saturday Night Live 50 performance, reminding them that while they were hating for free, Weezy was cashing a check. “Y’all are some d riders! My dad been having fun performing for years!” she declared. The response follows discourse regarding Lil Wayne not being tapped to perform the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime show as a New Orleans native, as Kendrick Lamar was chosen, instead.
Further back in 2019, the actress defended her dad against Kodak Black after he made disrespectful comments calling her father a “maggot” and saying he should have “died when [he] was a baby.” Even further back in 2015, she publicly slammed Young Thug for initially naming his album Carter 6, seeing it as a clear attempt to piggyback off the Young Money icon’s legacy. The Growing Up Hip-Hop star has no holds barred when it comes to the “A Milli” spitter, even if its T.I., who once called out her father for not supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.
Whether confronting critics or showing admiration, one thing is clear—Reginae will always be Wayne’s biggest cheerleader. Take a look below as we rewind it back to six notable times she stood up for the Hip-Hop living legend.

2015: Young Thug Announces ‘Carter 6’ Mixtape Inspired By ‘Tha Carter’ Album Series
In March 2015, Reginae Carter publicly criticized Young Thug for his decision to title his mixtape Carter 6, a reference to Lil Wayne‘s signature Tha Carter series. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Reginae questioned Young Thug’s intentions, stating, “Is he trying to be funny with this Carter6? Cause it’s pretty childish to me!” She further challenged Young Thug to reach her father’s level of artistry, remarking, “Try again if you’re even trying to get on my fathers level.”
Despite her remarks, Reginae clarified that her comments were not meant to be disrespectful, but were an effort to defend her father’s legacy. She expressed, “I usually stay in a child’s place but that’s my father and I’ll stick up for him no matter what!”

Lil Wayne himself addressed the situation during a performance, urging fans to “stop listening to songs of ni**s that pose naked on their motherf*ing album cover,” an assumed reference to Thugga’s cover art.
In response to potential legal action, Thug altered his album title from Carter 6 to Barter 6.

2016: T.I. Slams Lil Wayne For Not Supporting BLM
Image Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Lil Wayne’s 2016 Nightline interview sparked controversy when the artist revealed he didn’t feel connected to the Black Lives Matter movement. His comments quickly drew backlash, including from his friend and collaborator, T.I., who posted an Instagram rant criticizing Weezy’s stance.
Reginae, 17-years-old at the time—took to social media to defend her father. Under the Atlanta rapper’s original post, she wrote, “You lost his number? You should’ve copied and pasted this and sent it to him via text, but you wanna seek for attention.”
While some applauded Reginae for standing up for her father, others felt she should stay out of the situation, with some suggesting she should remain in a “child’s place.”

2019: Kodak Black Says Lil Wayne Should’ve “Died As A Baby”
Image Credit: Frazer Harrison; Paras Griffin/Getty Images In March 2019, tensions arose between Kodak Black and Lil Wayne leading to a public exchange involving Reginae. The situation began when Wayne claimed that he didn’t know who Kodak Black, Lil Yachty and other young rappers were, during an interview with The New York Times. Kodak then questioned Weezy’s relevance during a performance at Club LIV in Miami.
In his public rant, Yak called Wayne a “maggot” and suggested that the “Lollipop” rapper “should’ve died when [he] was a baby.”
Upon hearing these comments, Reginae took to Instagram to defend her father’s honor. She posted a picture of Wayne holding her as a baby, captioning it: “You new lil rappers need to start giving props and respect to the Goat. My father don’t bother nobody. He won’t even react to what was said. This man be in his own world so leave him the f**k alone.”
She added, “You pick the night he didn’t go to LIV to say that. You bold. Lol. #ihatethesenewlilni**as #norespectatall Don’t tell me to stay out of it because that’s my father and you mother f***erss don’t give him his credit and it’s a shame. 2023: Social Media Compares “Current Lil Baby” To “Prime Lil Wayne”
Image Credit: John Nacion/Getty Images In January 2023, an online debate emerged comparing “prime Lil Wayne” to “current Lil Baby.” Amused by the conversation, Reginae took to social media to defend her father’s legacy, emphasizing his significant impact on the music industry.
After MyMixtapes sparked the conversation with a tweet asking, “Who goes harder, Prime Lil Wayne or Current Lil Baby?” the tweet quickly gained traction, accumulating over 700,000 views and being shared nearly 1,000 times.
The former OMG Girlz singer took to X to weigh in on the discussion, bigging up her father’s legacy without downplaying Lil Baby. She began her post with a lighthearted message, writing: “‘KEEP MY FATHERS NAME OUT YA MOUTH’ [crying laughing emojis],” before adding, “Nah fr y’all need to stop comparing my dad to the new kids on the block… gotta stop! Everybody is super talented and dope! Let them have their run and time will tell… but leave that marathon Wayne ran out of it.”

2024: Lil Wayne Not Selected As Super Bowl Halftime Performer In New Orleans
Image Credit: Josh Brasted/Getty Images for ESSENCE; Antony Jones/Getty Images for Spotify When Kendrick Lamar was chosen over Lil Wayne for the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in New Orleans, fans expressed disappointment and confusion.
At the time, Reginae addressed the situation by highlighting her father’s contributions to his hometown, mentioning: “Lil Weezyana Fest is gonna be so lit this year! My dad brings this to his hometown every year to make his fans and supporters proud! Let’s focus on the positive and things we can control. Let’s talk about how he sold out in a day!!”
Lil Wayne also spoke on not being selected to perform in New Orleans instead of Kendrick Lamar, saying on-video: “That hurt. It hurt a lot. You know what I’m talking about. It hurt a whole lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown, and for automatically mentally putting myself in that position like somebody told me that was my position. So I blame myself for that.” Wayne also went on to thank his support system, reminding his fans that he wouldn’t be who he is today without them.

2025: Lil Wayne’s ‘SNL 50’ Performance Receives Much Backlash
Image Credit: Youtube screenshot Reginae recently came to the defense of her father following criticism of his performance during the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary special.
After Wayne performed a medley of his iconic hits with The Roots—featuring tracks like “Uproar,” “6 Foot 7 Foot,” “Lollipop,” “Mrs. Officer” and “A Milli”—some online critics argued that his set highlighted why he wasn’t selected to perform at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
In response to the backlash, Reginae addressed the criticism in The Shade Room’s Instagram comment section, firmly defending her father’s performance. She pointed out that Super Bowl performers don’t get paid for their appearances, writing, “Y’all are some d riders! My dad been having fun performing for years! He is truly himself when he hit the stage. Go play with y’all mf kids… he collected a check after this… what y’all get for hating? Not a damn thing!”
While social media was divided on the performance, many doubled down on their stance that Wayne should stay far from the Super Bowl stage. Nonetheless, Reginae stood her ground, backing her father’s legacy.
