Leon Thomas is opening up about fans comparing him to another R&B crooner. While speaking with The Rebecca Judd Show on Apple Music, the Grammy winner discussed how listeners group him with Frank Ocean, and the ever-evolving blend of R&B and other genres.
“It’s amazing to have comparisons like that. For me, I’m a real fan of music just as much as I am a creator and Frank Ocean is definitely the father to a lot of the soundscapes that l use, that mixture between alternative music and R&B and really talking my talk in the verses,” detailed the 31-year-old.
“I think it’s a real blend of things and shout out to him and SZA and Miguel and Jhené Aiko people who were really showing the world that R&B wasn’t just this one-sided thing. It could be so many different things blended together.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the MUTT performer listed his international dream collaborations and dropped hints about new music.
“Because I’m in the UK right now, I’m a do one from London. So I would love to have Sampha in the room. I would get Yussef Dayes. Oh gosh, I would get [Little] Simz, and then would just be me. I feel like we could come with something crazy,” he shared.
“l’ve been working on a lot of music and everything’s sounding really good, but I’m also very in tune with just my energy and how that needs to be captured on the record. The reason why I might do one take on a song and just leave it there is also the same reason why I may do a song 10 times before I put it out. I think it’s important to really capture the right energy and deliver the right thing to the people.”
