SZA’s SOS has just made more history, surpassing Adele’s 21 for the most weeks spent in the Billboard 200 Top 10 among albums by women. On the latest Billboard 200 chart, SOS scored its 85th nonconsecutive week in the Top 10, climbing from No. 4 to No. 3. Adele’s 21 spent an impressive 84 weeks on the chart.
While SOS continues its reign amongst women artists, the all-time record for most weeks in the Top 10 still belongs to the original cast recording of My Fair Lady which spent 173 weeks in the Top 10 from 1956 to 1960.
According to Billboard, back in March, SZA also achieved another remarkable chart milestone as SOS tied with Michael Jackson’s Thriller — both earning 79 total nonconsecutive weeks in the top 10 on the Billboard 200. No other Black artist has spent as many, or more, weeks in the top 10 with an album.
In response to the achievement, SZA shared with TMZ Hip-Hop, “My album tying MJ’s Thriller record… Got me speechless.” Top Dawg Entertainment president and SZA’s manager, Terrence “Punch” Henderson, also took to social media to express his amazement, describing the milestone with one word: “Insane,” followed by two praying hands emojis.
The R&B sensation also recently added over a dozen new plaques to her impressive collection. Back in February, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the 35-year-old singer with 28 new certifications, further solidifying her dominance in the industry. Among the new accolades, singles like “Used To” featuring Don Toliver, “Awkward,” “Prom,” and “Pretty Little Birds” earned their first platinum certifications. Additionally, tracks like “Tread Carefully,” “Forgiveless” featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and “Far” reached gold status.
The New Jersey native also received a 5x platinum certification for CTRL, while SOS was updated to an impressive 6x platinum.
