The Met Gala is just a few months away, and the institute has tapped big names to serve as members of this year’s host committee. The annual fashion event will be based around the spring 2025 exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and boasts a top-notch lineup of fashion figures that will contribute to helping the fundraiser up the ante from its previous iterations.
Back in October, The Met announced LeBron James will serve as honorary chair, while Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, ASAP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and of course, Anna Wintour are co-chairs. The announcement made today (Feb. 4) by Vogue revealed this year’s members of the costume institute benefit host committee, which lists names like Andre 3000, Usher, Dapper Dan, Angel Reese, Doechii, Simone Biles, Ayo Edebiri, Sha’Carri Richardson, Spike Lee, Tonya Lewis Lee, and plenty more needle movers.
The Met Gala this year will take place on May 5, 2025, continuing its long tradition of commencing on the first Monday of May every year.
The dress code is Tailored for You, a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation,” per The Met. It is the institute’s first exhibition to focus on menswear since 2003’s “Men in Skirts.” Composed of clothing, photographs, fine art, historical texts, artifacts, and more, it was inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
“Dandyism can seem frivolous, but it often poses a challenge to or a transcendence of social and cultural hierarchies,” Miller said in a statement. “It asks questions about identity, representation, and mobility in relation to race, class, gender, sexuality, and power. This exhibition explores dandyism as both a pronouncement and a provocation.”
