Anele Zondo Opens Up About Her Music Identity: “Ney or Ney The Bae?” In a candid moment with fans, artist Anele Zondo recently addressed the growing confusion around her music identity, particularly the ongoing debate of whether to go by Ney or Ney The Bae. Anele Zondo Opens Up About Her Music Identity: “Ney or Ney The Bae?”

“I’m so glad that somebody asked this question because I’m quite confused myself,” Zondo began with a smile, acknowledging the fans’ curiosity. “I was like, let me come and disentangle this, for you and for me, you know what I mean?”

“For those who are familiar with Anele’s music journey, the Ney The Bae brand has been a central part of her identity.” She explained how the name came about in the early days of her career. “Ney The Bae was just how we do it, right? I got into the music thing, I thought Ney is cute, let’s keep it to the three-letter name and keep it bouncing,” she explained, adding that it felt natural at the time.

However, as Anele’s career grew, she began to question the decision to stick with Ney rather than embrace her full name. “Now I’m inside, I’m realising, no man, I have built such a cool brand that side,” she said, reflecting on how her fans search for both Ney The Bae and her full name, Anele Zondo, when looking for her music. “So why am I Ney again? Why did I do that?”

While Anele Zondo is still unsure about the best way forward, she has had conversations with people about splitting her music into two distinct brands: her hip-hop work as Ney and her amapiano tracks as Ney The Bae. But for now, the name remains as it is.

“Should I make my hip hop stuff Ney, my piano stuff Ney The Bae? I don’t know,” she mused. “But Ney The Bae, that’s how we do it.”

It’s clear that while the famed rapper might still be navigating her brand identity, one thing is certain—her fans are here for whatever she chooses to call herself.
