The tension between Jess Hilarious and Loren LaRosa over their The Breakfast Club roles garnered attention earlier this month, and the OG host has chimed in with her thoughts. Angela Yee spoke with Fox 5 about what is going down over at her former job and even revealed they were initially planning to hire two new people to replace her.

“When I initially left, they did say they were going to hire two people, so that was always the plan. I’ma be honest, I don’t know what’s being communicated to anybody,” the radio veteran said. This may come as a surprise to many viewers, as the point of contention was assumed to be over the two women fighting for one spot on the show.

She acknowledged both ladies and their situations, specifically vouching for Jess and her hard work. “I know Jess was out on maternity leave and I know it’s tough coming back,” she empathized. “I know she’s expressed having a baby, postpartum, all of those things take a toll. And Loren works really hard, and Jess does, too. She’s on the road, and I think part of why they hired her is because of that. She does comedy shows, she’s on the road, that adds a lot to the show.”

Yee also provided her take about why the situation blew over the way it did. “Social media tends to get people riled up, it’s outside forces. It’s not what’s in the room and that’s what makes tensions sometimes build. But what is good is when we see a blow up and then work through it,” she said.

The 49-year-old media maven co-hosted The Breakfast Club alongside Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy from 2010 to 2022. She left to host her own show Way Up With Angela Yee on iHeartRadio.

Tensions within legendary morning show were made public earlier this month when Jess Hilarious publicly addressed her frustrations in an Instagram Live rant. Her sentiments largely regarded Loren LoRosa and her extended stay as a guest host, as she initially stepped in to fill in for Jess during maternity leave. She explained how she felt blindsided by the changes in the show after she came back, and also shared she felt her co-hosts never stuck up for her against criticism.

The two ladies spoke about the ordeal on the show the next morning (March 19). Loren said some parts of Jess’ Live were “crazy,” and recalled previously having a private meeting with Jess and the show’s EP, Eddie. She agreed with they were “fighting for air time” and asked what she can do better as a producer to avoid the on-air clash. Jess said Loren “over talks” sometimes on the show, but also gave her flowers for doing a good job. Watch the episode below and Angela Yee’s sentiments above.
