Bongani Fassie Shares How Serendipity Sparked A Musical Match With Fifi Cooper. It all began with a show on Valentine’s Day, but what followed was nothing short of musical fate. Bongani Fassie, the multi-talented producer and rapper riding high off the success of a collaborative single “Jehovah,” recently sat down with Tshwane FM to unravel the story behind his unexpected and electrifying collaboration with none other than South African rap queen, Fifi Cooper.

“Short story, once upon a time…” Bongani Fassie said launching into a tale that felt more like a rom-com plot than a typical studio session. It was after Fifi Cooper’s live performance at an event when he ran into her. Instead of calling it a night, Fifi had a different idea: “Don’t go back home, come with me to the studio.”

And just like that, what was supposed to be a one-night vibe check turned into a month-long musical deep dive. “That one visit ended up being a month,” Fassie shared, still in awe of how quickly everything unfolded. In that time, the pair recorded between 9 and 12 tracks—an entire catalogue born out of spontaneity.

The standout? “Jehovah.” A soul-cloaked duet where Fassie’s heartfelt melodies dance around Fifi’s sharp, compelling bars. The song hasn’t just taken over charts—it’s taken over hearts. And the magic doesn’t stop there. Fassie confirmed that their sessions have given birth to an entire duet album, with solo projects for both artists brewing in the background.

With a full-length collaboration on the horizon and solo projects in motion, Bongani Fassie and Fifi Cooper are far from done. If Valentine’s Day sparked the flame, 2025 might just be the year it burns bright across the entire South African music scene.
