Cam’ron learned the power of his words, even if they were stated in a movie, when he was shot in 2005. The 49-year-old rapper explained how a line he said in Paid In Full caused someone to open fire on him.
The Dipset member played Rico in the 2002 film and had to recite a line essentially stating how people from Washington, D.C., paled in comparison to people from Harlem. During a recent episode of Talk With Flee, he explained how he didn’t wanna say the line, but Dame Dash, the film’s producer, made him do so. “Ni**as from D.C. already don’t like New York ni**as,” he recalled saying. Still, Dame made him do it.
“He told me I had to do it, so I did it – and four years later, ni**as shot me in D.C,” he revealed. In 2005, Killa Cam was sitting in a blue Lamborghini Gallardo at a red light while sporting $200,000 in jewelry when someone approached the vehicle and attempted to rob him. The “Hey Ma” rapper got shot in both of his arms but managed to drive himself to Howard University Hospital and get treatment.
Dame Dash previously spoke about the incident during an appearance on All The Smoke in 2022 and how he wanted Cam’ron to be in the Paid In Full sequel he was working on. “Cam went through a lot, you know? He got shot over that role in Washington,” he said. “Yeah, that was over that. He’s never told his story, but there was times I hadn’t really realized what happened and I was asking him to do another role once and he was like, ‘Yo bro, I got shot over that role.’”
Dash confirmed that Cam’ron was hesitant to do the scene where he insulted people from Washington, D.C., but he urged him to do it. “So when I found out [about Cam’ron getting shot], I felt a little responsible and I didn’t wanna put anybody in that position again,” he added. “‘Cause people take this story really serious. So it has to be really done completely correctly.”
Cam’ron has been in some real life beef recently with his Dipset comrade Jim Jones, though they haven’t come to blows, and no guns have been shot. 50 Cent, one of Hip-Hop’s most notorious villains and instigators, was the catalyst for this recent tiff between the group members when he appeared on It Is What It Is and reflected on bringing Jones on stage at a performance while he beefed with Cam. This was intentional on his end to cause friction in the group, and the Come Home With Me rapper claimed the strategy was effective. Jones, on the other hand, said issues already existed within the group and told 50 and Cam to “get off my d*ck” while speaking with Justin Laboy on Respectfully.
That caused Cam’ron to go on a crazy rant and talk about how Jim Jones begged to be part of Dipset, wasn’t even from Harlem, and he learned how to rap from Ma$e. He also recalled how he defended him when he had beef with Maino, only for him to now be part of the Lobby Boyz with the “Hi Hater” rapper. “Every ni**a that do something to put pressure on you, you sit there and work it out,” Cam said. “But when ni**as got genuine heart for you and don’t put hands on you, then you can keep going on and on. That’s the pattern.”
