South African hip-hop icon Cassper Nyovest recently took to social media to offer a sobering reality check, warning his followers about the deceptive nature of Instagram and the pressures of keeping up appearances. In his statement, Cassper cautioned against assuming that everyone flaunting wealth online is genuinely successful, emphasizing that many are drowning in debt while trying to maintain a luxurious facade.

“I wanted to give advice to people at home. Don’t look at people’s Instagram and think it’s easy or assume they’re wealthy. Social media is full of lies. Johannesburg is also full of lies. People pose with other people’s cars. Many are drowning in debt. It’s tough out here,” he stated.

Cassper’s perspective resonated with many who have felt the pressure of social media comparisons, but it also sparked a response from one of South Africa’s most successful YouTubers and content creators, Ghost Hlubi. Appearing on the L-Tido Podcast a few days later, Ghost Hlubi challenged Cassper’s stance, offering a different take on the subject.

“I saw a video recently of Cassper Nyovest, firstly I would like to say that’s the big homie. But he was just saying that everything you guys see on the internet is fake, you guys shouldn’t feel bad about your 9-5 or feel like people are choking on debt. I just want to say that I’m on the internet, and I have a BMW M4, and my instalments are not choking me. I feel like people should see what they see on the internet as inspiration,” Ghost Hlubi remarked.
