Charlamagne Tha God is standing firm behind his friend Andrew Schulz as the comedian faces backlash over anti-Black jokes that led to him being referenced on new Kendrick Lamar song, “wacced out murals.”

On the latest episode of The Brilliant Idiots, Charlamagne passionately defended Schulz, doubling down on his belief that comedians should have the freedom to joke about anything without fear of being canceled. Guest Nyla Symone seemingly agreed with part of Charlamagne’s stance as she nodded while they discussed Schulz joking on all groups.

“I agree that if you’re a comedian…you have the license to make jokes about any and everybody,” the radio host said. “Since when do we police comedians? And by the way, if you don’t like the jokes, you have every right to say it. You can rap about it, protest about it, be offended, tweet about it — you can do all of that sh*t.”

He added, “If Andrew was a person who only was constantly making jokes about one group of people, it would be different.”

Charlamagne’s comments come in the wake of Schulz responding to Kendrick Lamar rapping, “Don’t let no white comedian talk about no Black woman, that’s law.” The line seemingly refers to him clowning Black women on his Flagrant podcast while speaking to Shxtsngigs hosts James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu, who apologized for laughing at his remarks.

While Lamar didn’t name Schulz directly, many fans connected the line to these remarks. In response, Schulz acknowledged that some comedians hide behind humor as a way to disguise hate or racism — something he does not condone. “That sucks, and that’s just bad comedy. And anybody even online that knows anything about me is being honest, you don’t believe that… You’ve seen me make fun of everybody.”

Schulz then referred to his bizarre joke about “raping” Kendrick Lamar, where he said, “I would make love to [Kendrick], and there’s nothing he could do about it. Just Kendrick Lamar, I would make love to him. And the only thing that he could do is decide if it’s consensual or not…I would go so far as to say he couldn’t stop most people on the planet from having sex with him…He’s talking a lot of sh*t, but if it came down to it, I could put him on my lap, I could feed him a bottle.”

He then reiterated with Charlamagne that he was only joking about having non-consensual sex with the GNX rapper.

Despite the uproar, CThaGod remained in defense of his friend, emphasizing that comedy should be a space where all groups can be joked about and there should be no boundaries in humor.
