  • Seun Kuti has reacted to the feud between fellow musicians Burna Boy and Speed Darlington.
  • During a recent Instagram live session, he urged his fans not to involve him in the duo’s fight because he isn’t Burna Boy’s advisor.
  • He further revealed how Diddy reportedly made Speed Darlington popular.

Singer, Seun Kuti has distanced himself from the ongoing rift between his colleagues Burna Boy and Speed Darlington.

Recall that Speed Darlington was rearrested for suggesting that Burna Boy had an illicit relationship with embattled American music executive Diddy in a bid to win a Grammy. He is yet to be released despite plea from many and a court order’s ruling.

Reacting to comments by some fans during a recent Instagram live session, Kuti said he wouldn’t want to be involved in the saga, stressing that Burna Boy gifting him diamond jewellery doesn’t make him his adviser.

He said, moreover, Diddy whom Speed Darlington accused Burna Boy of having illicit relationships with, was the one who made the accuser popular. In his words:

“Don’t involve me in Burna Boy & Speed Darlington’s case; because I collected a diamond from him doesn’t mean I’m his close adviser. Diddy was even the one who made Speed Darlington popular.

“He reposted ‘Bangdadang’ which made the song popular. I have done a lot of songs, and Diddy never posted any of them, but he reposted Speed Darlington’s song.”

In December 2024, Grammy-winning singer, Burna Boy gifted colleague Seun Kuti a custom-made diamond chain designed in the image of Fela Kuti, his legendary father.

Seun shared a photo of the intricately designed chain via Instagram. In the caption, the Afrobeat star revealed that Burna Boy presented him with the gift during their first meeting. Seun also expressed his appreciation to the singer. He wrote:

“From @burnaboygram with love. We actually met properly for the first time and ODOGWU send gift. Thanks bro. Big love.”

Burna Boy has often spoken about the profound influence Fela has had on his music and career.

He once described Fela as his “inspiration and childhood hero”.

He has also rejected comparisons between himself and Fela, calling them “dishonourable”.
