Cory Booker is doing something against Donald Trump and the “creepy billionaires.”
Senator Booker uploaded a video to social media before taking the Senate floor on Monday night (Mar. 31) at 7 PM EST. Booker addressed the nation, which found him speaking about the backlash that Democrats have been facing for not doing enough against President Trump’s unconstitutional executive orders and actions, asserting that he would do his part.
“I’ve been hearing from people all over my state and indeed all over the nation calling upon folks in Congress to do more, to do things that recognize the urgency, the crisis of the moment,” Booker expressed in a video posted to social media beforehand. “And so we all have a responsibility, I believe, to do something different, to cause — as [late Rep.] John Lewis said — ‘good trouble,’ and that includes me.”
Once on the floor, Booker then alerted his peers that he intended to speak “for as long as I am physically able.” The New Jersey politician then embarked on +18 hour protest against Trump’s policies, demanding that his peers mobilize and take back the “America we know.”
With over 50,000 people watching live on YouTube, Booker addressed a litany of worries from the American people, such as price gouging, healthcare, free speech, the Department of Education, DOGE and foreign policy, as well as asking the country to return to a time when American decency meant something. However, when Booker arrived at the targeted criticisms against Trump and Elon Musk, his passion evoked a roaring approval from the political chambers. Booker claimed that the duo showed a “complete disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, and the needs of the American people.”
“In just 71 days, the president has inflicted harm after harm on Americans’ safety, financial stability, the foundations of our democracy, and any sense of common decency,” Booker said in his introductory remarks. “These are not normal times in our nation. And they should not be treated as such in the United States Senate.”
Booker appeared tired as the live event rolled into the 15th hour, but he claimed to have “fuel in the tank,” which he said as he gulped down a glass of water. Moving past 18 hours, Booker’s speech went into the book of American history, becoming the fifth-longest performed in the Senate.
While it may seem like Cory Booker’s move was a filibuster — a political speech intended to halt the advancement of a particular legislation — it wasn’t. Booker’s marathon speech is more of a critique of the current state of America’s political sphere, spearheaded by the Trump regime.
