According to Zimoja, award-winning rapper and producer Leslie ‘Da L.E.S.’ Mampe is on his way to recovery after suffering a stroke just a day before his birthday celebration in July last year. Da L.E.S. has now left South Africa and travelled to the United States to recover under the care of his mother, Priscilla Mampe.

The stroke affected his body movement, and he spent over a month in the hospital. After being discharged, he stayed at his home in Johannesburg, which was reportedly being sold. He has now moved to Washington, D.C., his birthplace, where his mother has lived for years.

A close family friend shared that Da L.E.S. is familiar with the area, as he often visited his mom there. “His mom took him with her for his recovery, and he’s getting better medical care,” the friend told Zimoja.

Before his move, Da L.E.S.’s close friends, including L-Tido, Cassper Nyovest, and Pastor Kabelo Mabalane, visited him to offer support and well wishes. One of the friends present shared that Pastor Kabelo led a prayer for Da L.E.S.’s recovery, expressing gratitude for his life and anticipating his return to music soon.

We had a prayer for his recovery; he is doing very well, and we can’t wait to have him up and back in the game again,’ the friend said. “He is grateful to be alive, to see another day, and so are we.”
