Poppa’s House, the comedy series starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., has been cancelled at CBS after one season. According to Deadline, the show performed well enough for a full series order with five additional episodes. However, its ratings were below the three other current CBS comedy series.
The original featured Wayans senior as a legendary talk radio host and happily divorced “Poppa” who has his point of view challenged at work by a new female co-host. At home, he finds himself still parenting his adult son, a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.
Alongside the father-son duo, the series also starred Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson.
Damon Wayans shared a heartfelt Instagram post in response to the series’ cancellation, describing the experience as “a beautiful journey.”
“Creating poppas house was such a beautiful journey. My heart is full as I say thank you to every single person who made Poppa’s House such a meaningful experience,” wrote the 64-year-old in a lengthy caption. “To the incredible cast you brought so much heart, soul, and joy to every scene.”

“A very special thank you to my son, Damon Jr. working beside you has been one of the greatest joys of my life. And to my incredible family, siblings, children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who showed up as writers, guest stars, and creative forces you made this journey even more meaningful. It’s such a blessing to have so much love on one set and to be able to create and laugh with family and friends,” he continued.
“Though Poppa’s House is coming to a close, I’m walking away with deep gratitude, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories. This show gave me more than I could’ve ever imagined.”
