DDG says the streamer revolution is just starting, but they have already become more popular than rappers. During an interview with Complex’s 360 With Speedy, the YouTube creator was asked whether or not he felt streamers surpassed rappers’ level of celebrity.

DDG didn’t hold back, and the outspoken YouTuber responded that streamers have “100%” accomplished this feat and that, “I feel like that with content creators, period, though. We are the [public relations], it feels good to be my own PR…I don’t know if I’m doing a good job or not. But we are the PR, we are the stops. You drop an album, you gotta come talk to the content creators ‘cause we’re going to do more than the radio going to for you—I feel like streamers are definitely the new celebrities.”

The multihyphenate doubled down on his claims, using himself as an example. DDG asserted that streamers are so much more popping than rappers that he watches Twitch “more than” he listens to and taps into music.

“I listen to music if it’s like somebody on Twitch telling me to listen to it,” he continued. “I listen to music based off of how Twitch react to it, and it’s like, I don’t know if that’s good or bad. But I’m in both lanes, so I guess it’s cool.”

With streamers becoming increasingly popular and platforms such as Kick, Twitch, TikTok, Trovo, and YouTube Gaming skyrocketing, more people can jump in front of the camera to create live content. The steady rise in popularity has led to celebrities appearing on various live streams, hanging out with the likes of Kai Cenat, Adin Ross, xQc, and more. Lil Yachty spoke of this revolution during an interview with Club Shay Shay, where he echoed DDG’s sentiments that streamers are bigger than rappers.

“I appreciate these kids just going in front of their computer and being themselves,” Lil Boat told Shannon Sharpe. “You know rap is a lot of, like, fake personas. Streamers are just them. It’s just, ‘That’s who I am, this is who I am.’ They could be a little corny sometimes, a little cheesy, but that’s just them, you know? And that’s just what it is.”
