A documentary exploring the life and career of Eddie Murphy is on the way. On Thursday (Jan. 30), Netflix announced EDDIE, a non-fiction feature that “chronicles his meteoric rise from teen comic phenom to Saturday Night Live breakout and stand-up supernova to box-office titan.” The film is due on the streamer later this year.
Direct commentary from the 63-year-old will address the star entertaining three generations of fans with a filmography that spans comedy, action, drama, animation, musicals, and family fare. Additionally, friends, co-stars, directors, and his comedic peers are set to appear in the work.
Angus Wall serves as director with producers John Davis, John Fox, Charisse Hewitt, Terry Leonard, and Kent Kubena. Netflix promises “an emotional ride, offering laughter and tears and an EDDIE they’ve never seen before.”

The streamer also announced additional new titles coming to the platform in 2025.
Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds is a film set to go behind the scenes of a highly esteemed pillar of the United States Air Force: The Air Demonstration Squadron. American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden is a docuseries centering on the notorious former leader of al-Qaida. Chaos: The Manson Murders is a documentary film, described as a complex narrative of the Manson family murders.
Additional projects include the docuseries Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer docuseries and Katrina: Come Hell and High Water as well as the films Pangolin: Kulu’s Journey, and Titan.
“No matter what you’re looking forward to this year, there’s no way to be completely ready for what’s next on Netflix,” detailed Bela Bajaria, Netflix Chief Content Officer, at the company’s annual showcase of films, series and games coming in 2025 according to a press release. “With more than 700 million people watching, we can’t just be one thing. We need to be the best version of everything.”
