Over the years, fans have witnessed Gabzy masterfully refine his craft, weaving personal tales of love into unique melodies, and relatable narratives that captures the highs and lows of love. After three concise releases this year—’Piano,’ ‘X,’ and ‘Too Fine’ featuring Jayo and Odeal—Gabzy surprises fans with a 2-pack single titled ‘Round 1,’ conceptually split to showcase two sides: ‘Summer Nights’ by Gabzy and ‘Don’t Play With Me’ by his supposed alter ego, Malone.
‘Don’t Play With Me,’ a Malone expression, depicts a carefree, casanova persona with upbeat rhythms, revealing his tendencies for flings that leave a trail of broken hearts. This 3-minute track serves as a sequel to the character first introduced in the 2020 Malone EP, where Gabzy explored a more vain and emotionally detached side.
On the other hand, ‘Summer Nights’ portrays Gabzy as a lover navigating heartbreak, mirroring the personal, narrative-driven style of his 2022 EP ‘At The End Of The Night.’ Collaborating with long-time creative partner Melvitto and singer-songwriter Tay Iwar, Gabzy crafts a sonic experience that contrasts his two personas.
While it remains unclear if a larger project featuring more of Gabzy and Malone is in the works, the distinction in storytelling is evident, making it easy for listeners to identify which side of Gabzy they’re hearing.
