I am an accidental musician – Timi Dakolo

  • Timi Dakolo has recalled how he became a musician, describing himself as an accidental one.
  • The 43 year old who began singing at a young age stated that he didn’t see himself becoming part of the music industry despite the fact that he sang.
  • He shared the point he made the life changing moment of being a musician in a recent interview.

Nigerian singer, Timi Dakolo, has reflected on his journey to becoming a professional musician.

The ‘Great Nation’ crooner explained that music for him was initially a hobby and not a career.

Featuring in a recent episode of the ‘On The Record’ podcast, Dakolo said he decided to do music professionally after winning the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007. In his words:

“I still see myself as an accidental musician. Yeah, I used to sing in choir. I used to just like that I sang. The first idea of music was during morning devotion.

“Then, we started singing street songs. We used to have notebooks where we write songs and they were girls to impress. So music was not something I thought I would do professionally. It was after Idols that I decided to do music professionally.

“I said to myself, ‘Okay, we are here. Sometimes you meet your destiny on the road you take to avoid it.”

Meanwhile, Timi Dakolo revealed how he met his wife of 12 years, Busola Dakolo.

In a recent interview with Pulse, Timi Dakolo disclosed that he met his wife in Church, became friends and ensured the friendship budded into a romantic relationship.

The Iyawo Mi hitmaker also stated that at the time, he was driving the car he won from a music talent contest. Recall Timi Dakolo emerged winner of the Idols West Africa inaugural season in 2007. The car he won from the show was a Picanto, with which he used to pick up and drop off Busola, his then-girlfriend.

At some point, Busola told the 43-year-old to stop parking in front of her Zenith Bank office, out of embarrassment.
