  • Doris Akonanya, a woman of unshakable strength and resilience, recently marked the International Day for People with Disabilities by releasing a poignant new video that opens a window into her world.
  • In it, she bares her soul, revealing the heart-wrenching journey of how she lost one of her legs.
  • But rather than letting tragedy define her, Doris fills the video with a powerful, unwavering message: a call to all those who share her condition to rise above their challenges, to embrace themselves fully, and to thrive against all odds

Nollywood actress Doris Akonanya, widely recognized as “Doris Still Smiling,” recently took a bold step forward, not just to celebrate her accomplishments but to share a deeply personal journey that defines her unbreakable spirit.

Doris opened up about the journey that led her to become the woman she is today — a journey that wasn’t always easy but was always filled with courage.

On December 3rd, a day dedicated to honoring the strength and resilience of differently-abled individuals, Doris Akonanya took to social media to give a raw, unfiltered insight into the turning point of her life — the tragic accident that led to the loss of one of her legs when she was younger.

In her powerful message, Doris boldly rejected the label of “disabled” that others might place on her, declaring to the world that she is not broken, but differently abled.

With a heart full of fire and conviction in her voice,  Doris extended a hand to those walking a similar path. She urged them to rise, to stand on their feet, to be proud, and to take up space in the world unapologetically.

She reminded them that their struggle is not the end of their story, but merely a phase—a temporary chapter in the vast book of their lives.
