Joe Budden Suggests Tommy Richman Retire After Latest Snippet

Tommy Richman quickly turned himself from the next big thing to an unwanted intruder when he denounced being called a Hip-Hop artist last year. Joe Budden isn’t willing to look past that, suggesting that the 24-year-old singer should retire after hearing his latest snippet.

Richman teased a new record on social media which had heavy Hip-Hop production, with specific elements sounding reminiscent of mid-2000s records from Soulja Boy, Bow Wow, Dem Franchise Boyz, and more. Budden and his crew reacted to the snippet on a recent episode of his eponymous podcast. “Aye dog I hate to be the one to break it to you – get this sh*t the f**k out of here, and get you the f**k out of here,” the controversial media personality stated. “Don’t try to sneak back in yet. We not done being mad at you.”

The retired rapper said that if Daniel Caesar is still suffering the effects of his “cancellation,” then the Virginia artist should stay away, too. “I don’t even like that name [Tommy Richman] no more,” he continued. “I don’t like nothing about Tommy Richman. I think he should retire. But he can’t because some hedge fund ni**a done signed him and keeps dumping money into him so we gotta keep hearing the horrible version of the sh*t that worked for you because you can’t come up with a new slap that don’t sound like the old slap.” Watch below.

In October 2024, Richman infamously tweeted that he was not a Hip-Hop artist after DJ Hed included one of his records in the rotation for his Hip-Hop radio mix. After receiving backlash, Richman clarified that he simply did not want to be boxed in as an artist.

Though some people understood his point, others weren’t willing to overlook his initial distancing from the genre, especially when his breakthrough hit “Million Dollar Baby” relied on the genre’s elements. Things got even worse for Richman when he submitted “Million Dollar Baby” for Grammy nominations in Rap categories; he ended up not receiving any nominations.

The “Devil Is A Lie” artist released debut album Coyote in September 2024, noticeably without “Million Dollar Baby” on it. The 11-track effort featured Trevor Spitta, Zachary Moon, Paco, and MyNameIsntJMack. Listen below.
