Kanye West Says People ‘Can’t Count Out’ Drake After Loss To Kendrick

Sometimes your enemies know you just as well as your friends. Ye recently stated that people “can’t ever count out” Drake after he lost his rap beef to Kendrick Lamar in 2024.

The artist formerly known as Kanye West hosted a Grammys afterparty on Sunday evening (Feb. 2) and previewed some clips from his upcoming interview on Justin LaBoy’s Respectfully. He was asked for his thoughts on the heavyweight rap feud and responded, “I was like, ‘Man, you killed my nemesis. Where’s the movies if it ain’t no Drake?’ Or at least he took him down for a little bit. You know in superhero films, maybe it’s like one of the characters like Wolverine or something just goes away for a couple films.”

LaBoy followed up and inquired as to whether K. Dot “killed” Drizzy or not, and West gave a half-surprising, half-unsurprising answer. “Yeah, for now. You can’t ever count out Steph Curry. That man might get 200 points in one song or something,” the Chicago producer said. “Drake added something to the algorithm. He advanced it, Future advanced it and now Kendrick is advancing the frequency […] If you don’t really learn, as a professional rapper [in] a sport, what Kendrick is doing, you might be wiped out.” Watch below.

Ye’s answer was surprising because several months ago, coincidentally in an interview with Justin LaBoy, he admitted that he was happy to take part in the “elimination of Drake” alongside Kendrick Lamar, Future, Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, and more. He even released his remix to “Like That,” the widely-considered “first shot” in what became the biggest rap moment of 2024.

However, his answer was simultaneously not surprising because the Vultures artist had unsuccessfully attempted to take the Toronto superstar in the past. He produced “Infrared” on Pusha T’s 2018 album Daytona, which was the setup for “The Story Of Adidon” where the Virginia rapper revealed the part-time crooner was hiding his son Adonis. The multi-time Grammy winner continued throwing shots over the years but barely left a chink in Drake’s armor, as his success only grew.

Lamar had the most successful campaign in shrinking the For All The Dogs rapper down to size and rode that momentum up to the Grammys this past Sunday. His smash hit diss song “Not Like Us” secured 5 awards, making it the winningest Hip-Hop song in Grammy history and the second rap song to ever win Record Of The Year. The Compton rapper’s victory lap continues to his halftime performance at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans next Sunday (Feb. 9), while Drake continues the Anita Max Win Tour in Australia, which began this week.
