Ye has never been afraid of exposing screenshots of conversations he has had with people, even if the person on the other end wasn’t actually who he thought they were. However, this week he shut down a fake screenshot circulating the internet that made it seem like the Chicago producer was angry with Playboi Carti.
The screenshot, posted by a Carti fan page, was crafted to look as though the artist formerly known as Kanye West posted the messages on his Instagram. “How you goin bring that many people on stage but not me,” he asked “Carti,” referring to his Rolling Loud LA performance on Sunday night (March 16) which featured The Weeknd, Nav, Kai Cenat, and more. “Had a whole damn chessboard with all of those pawns. You even had Nav up there.”
“Carti” replied, “I’m sorry Ye .. Imma make it up to u […] U in LA ?” The Vultures artist in the fake screenshot asked “And why is Kai so short” before continuing his tirade. “I could’ve been [in LA] […] If my absence means nothing then my presence must never have been valued […] F**king Nav bro really.” Monday morning (March 17), the 47-year-old artist quoted the tweet with the screenshot and simply wrote “This is not real.” There is also a community note attached to the original tweet confirming that it is fake.

It was easy for the Playboi Carti fan page to convince people this was a real conversation since Ye has posted texts with his Yeezy employees, Diddy, someone who he thought was Joe Rogan, and several other celebrities over the years. Rogan had to call him out for it when the father of four made it seem like the former Fear Factor host wanted to bring him on his podcast and clear the air on his anti-semitic tweets.
Ye and Carti having actual issues would have been surprising given their recent collaborative history. West appeared on “Go2DaMoon” on 2020’s Whole Lotta Red, and Carti returned the favor the following year with his guest spot on “Off The Grid” from Donda. The duo went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 together last year with “Carnival” also featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Rich The Kid.
