Kendrick Lamar‘s Super Bowl Halftime Show has prompted over 100 complaints to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). At least 10 of those grievances are associated with the Grammy-winning diss track against Drake, “Not Like Us.”
According to TMZ, viewers submitted the complaints six weeks after the rapper’s 13-minute performance.
“Kendrick Lamar made fake false and scandalous claims that are unfounded,” one person noted. “He [said] drake was a pedophile on TV in front of million of ppl, do better, this is a sad day.”
Another accused the GNX rapper of using the world’s biggest stage to advance a “personal vendetta” against Drake. Someone else described the choreography from the set as “apparent anti-American.” Others complained about only seeing Black performers and dancers onstage.
Serena Williams, who made a cameo during K. Dot’s show, was also targeted in some complaints for doing the Crip Walk. The tennis star already defended her appearance, admitting that she wasn’t being “petty.”
When it came to “Not Like Us,” which Lamar kept teasing throughout the show and ultimately performed last, he quipped, “I want to play their favorite song, but you know they love to sue.” He also refrained from labeling Drake a pedophile, and went silent instead of rapping, “Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophile.”
The audience, though, did chant the “A minor” bar quite loudly.
Complaints aside, Lamar’s show drew in an average of 133.5 million viewers— more than any other Halftime performance in history per Front Office Sports. Just a week earlier he’d snagged five Grammys for “Not Like Us,” including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
