Kevin Gates turned heads on Tuesday night (April 22) when he sat courtside at the Lakers vs. Timberwolves game, following controversial comments he made about LeBron James‘ wife, Savannah.
Earlier this week, Gates took to Instagram to give his unwarranted opinion on the couple’s relationship. In an Instagram post, the “Two Phones” rapper compared the way Savannah “looks” at her husband versus how “white women” supposedly react to him. He pointed out white women who come to see him play are “d*cked out” by his presence, whereas Savannah acts like a “jail warden.”
Seemingly in response to Gates’ remarks, the NBA legend took to the gram with a photo of him and his wife captioned with: “Kings don’t concern themselves with the opinions of peasants,” followed by a playful, “Where to next Queen?!?! Let’s get it!” Savannah also seemingly clapped back with a Nicki Minaj reaction clip from 2019 where she says, “What? Um—chile, anyways, so.”
In Gates’ video, he went on to describe moments during games that he alleges Savannah is being less supportive of LeBron. He claimed that when LeBron exchanges handshakes with teammates, he can “feel” Savannah’s energy coming off like a cop on duty rather than a “supportive wife.”
The 39-year-old then mocked what he thinks LeBron’s thoughts are in those moments, adding, “You act like I’m bothering you, b*tch. Like, I’m the greatest player in the world — one of them … And I’m in the playoffs, and you act like the warden of the jail.”
After the couple’s perceived responses, Gates doubled down in another video saying “sometimes the truth hurts, but it heals.”
