Megan Thee Stallion was granted a five-year civil restraining order against Tory Lanez following a passionate testimony given in Los Angeles on Thursday (Jan. 9), according to Billboard.
Before a judge, Meg emotionally recounted the trauma she continues to face after being shot in 2020, and expressed fear for her safety upon Lanez’s eventual release from prison.
“I’m scared that when he gets out of jail, he’s going to still be upset with me,” the Houston star told Judge Richard Bloom via video. “I feel like maybe he’ll shoot me again, and maybe this time I won’t make it.” Fighting back tears, she added, “I haven’t been at peace since I was shot. I’m just tired of being harassed.”

Per Billboard, the restraining order prohibits Lanez from any form of harassment or contact with Megan. Judge Bloom emphasized Megan’s credible fear of violence and acknowledged the “significant ripple effect” of the 2020 shooting. The judge also noted that Lanez’s actions served “no lawful purpose.”
Lanez, né Daystar Peterson, was convicted in 2022 on three felony counts related to the 2020 shooting. During the incident, a heated argument escalated, leading to Lanez reportedly shouting, “Dance, bi**h!” before firing at Megan’s feet. In 2023, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Megan’s lawyers have accused Lanez of orchestrating harassment campaigns against her even from behind bars. They claim Lanez coordinated payments to social media figures to spread misinformation about the case, including a viral post falsely asserting that an appeals court declared him “innocent.”

In October, Megan also filed a lawsuit against YouTuber Milagro Gramz, alleging that she acted as a “mouthpiece” for Lanez, making defamatory claims. The legal team cited evidence of prison phone calls in which Lanez allegedly arranged payments to Gramz through his father to fuel smear campaigns.
During the hearing, Megan addressed claims from Lanez’s attorneys that the restraining order violated his free speech rights. She clarified that her goal was not to stifle criticism, but to stop Lanez from orchestrating attacks against her. “I understand that being a public figure comes with hearing a lot of people from all over the world talk about you,” she said. “The problem is that the man who shot me is paying people to put out lies and smear campaigns against me.”
Judge Bloom ultimately focused on the potential of future violence, highlighting the gravity of the original shooting. “With a violent act like that, there’s a ripple effect that continues on,” he stated. “Ms. Pete’s testimony makes it clear that the ripple effect here has been significant.”
Lanez’s attorney, Michael Hayden, argued that the restraining order was an attempt to “chill free speech” and that Megan was misinterpreting the independent actions of internet bloggers. “This is about an attempt to silence opinions she disagrees with,” Hayden said. He denied any ongoing threats from Lanez.
Despite the defense, the court sided with Megan, offering her some “relief” in her ongoing fight for her peace and mental health. “I just want to move forward,” she told the judge.
Tory Lanez has yet to respond to the latest news.
