A judge has officially dismissed the corruption charges against New York City mayor Eric Adams.
On Wednesday (April 2), Judge Dale E. Ho ordered to dismiss the case with prejudice and also denied prosecutors the option to refile the charges after the mayoral election. The decision “spares Adams from having to govern in a way that pleases President Donald Trump or potentially risk having the Republican’s Justice Department revive the charges,” according to AP News.
The Justice Department requested in February that Adams’ case be dismissed because it was “distracting” him from helping Trump “step up deportations” across the city. Ho’s ruling criticized the Trump administration’s motives for wanting to drop the case.

“Everything here smacks of a bargain: dismissal of the indictment in exchange for immigration policy concessions,” Ho wrote in a 78-page opinion. He said he found the DOJ’s position “disturbing” because it implies public officials may receive special treatment if they go along with political policy goals. “That suggestion is fundamentally incompatible with the basic promise of equal justice under the law.”
Adams has since responded to the judge’s decision, doubling down on his innocence. “As I said all along, this case never should have been brought, and I did nothing wrong,” he said. “I have always been solely beholden to the people of this city. No special interests, no political opponents, but just everyday New Yorkers, just you.”
In the 2024 indictment, the Democratic public figure faced conspiracy, wire fraud and bribery charges. The charges outlined a trail of corruption that began when he served as an elected official in Brooklyn and continued through his time serving as NYC mayor. Revisit the most shocking claims here.
