Roddy Ricch got into a sticky situation recently when he tried to reclaim his lost Grammy award. The 26-year-old artist claimed that a YouTuber attempted to extort him.

How did the Compton talent lose the award in the first place? Well, his assistant had a mishap with the storage unit he managed on behalf of the rapper, which held the award, and it somehow fell into the hands of Prieto Hunters. Hunters revealed that he only paid $280 for the storage unit, but was looking for much more to return Ricch’s belongings to him. Even after the “The Box” rapper offered $10,000, Hunters was not satisfied.

“First he asked me for an AP, then he asked me for $50,000,” Roddy said on Instagram Live. “So it was never about ‘Oh we’re going to do it on just the strength of trying to get it back to you.’ All that type of sh*t. It was more so about a n**ga trying to get some clout off it or a n**ga trying to basically extort me for $50,000.”

Roddy Ricch and Prieto Hunters eventually agreed on a price and agreed to meet at a California police station to make the transaction. Ricch claimed that Hunters showed up to their meeting with “two cops and three ni**as with cameras.” Nonetheless, he got his possession back and it was a meaningful one.

Ricch won a 2020 Grammy for Best Rap Performance, highlighting his “Racks In The Middle” track with the late Nipsey Hussle. Though he was humbled by the achievement, he admitted that it was bittersweet since the Victory Lap artist was not there to receive the award with him. “It just had a street impact,” he told Variety. “It was organically moving through the streets, so that’s how I feel it initially gained its popularity. Then it just spread like wildfire. It’s a bittersweet thing as far as a Grammy, but it’s a good thing.”

The eight-time Grammy nominee is currently rolling out his next LP The Navy Album. It will mark his first album release since 2021’s Live Life Fast, the underwhelming follow-up to his massive debut Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial. This year, he shared singles “911” and “Survivor’s Remorse.” Listen below.
