Saquon Barkley thought he could enjoy a golf outing with President Donald Trump without any stress, and got the exact opposite reaction. The Philadelphia Eagles running back responded to critics via X this week.
“lol some people are really upset cause I played golfed and flew to the White House with the PRESIDENT,” he wrote, referring to their Sunday activities (April 27) in New Jersey and the forthcoming Eagles trip to the White House, as is customary for all sports teams who win championships. “Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand. Just golfed with Obama not too long ago…and look forward to finishing my round with Trump ! Now ya get out my mentions with all this politics and have amazing day.”
Naturally, people are quick to point out how his time with Trump is a bit deeper than just having respect for his position in the country. “Your meeting with Trump, a racist who called for the lynching of the exonerated Central Park Five, is not the same as meeting with Obama,” one user replied. “Respectfully…don’t put Obama and Trump in the same sentence. Obama had class,” another user added.
Time will tell if Saquon Barkley’s leisure activities with President Donald Trump will cause any division within the Philadelphia Eagles. Yamiche Alcindor, the White House correspondent for NBCNews, confirmed that their quarterback and Super Bowl LIX MVP, Jalen Hurts, would not join the team on their trip to Washington, D.C. She reported that Hurts and other players who won’t be in attendance had “scheduling conflicts.”
Barkley had an amazing first season with the Eagles, rushing for 2005 yards and 13 touchdowns. Hurts added 2903 passing yards, 630 rushing yards, and 32 total touchdowns. They led the Eagles to a 14-3 record, NFC East title, and dominant 40-22 victory over the defending two-time champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
