Shedeur Sanders maintained his “legendary” status after going unselected in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. The star athlete shared his reaction to his unexpected fate in a video uploaded Thursday night (April 24) to Instagram by his father, Deion Sanders. His brother Deion Sanders Jr. was also in attendance as the family collectively awaited to hear their surname called from the podium.

“We all didn’t expect this, of course, but I feel like with God, anything [is] possible, everything [is] possible,” elaborated the 23-year-old after falling out of the first round. Previously, he was expected to be one of the league’s top picks.

“I don’t feel like this happened for no reason. All of this is, of course, fuel to the fire. Under no circumstances did we all know this was going to happen, but we understand we on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow’s the day. We going to be happy regardless. Legendary.”

Friday morning (April 25), Coach Prime seemingly shared his reaction on social media. In a post on X, the former NFL star detailed that this was only the beginning, without directly mentioning his son or the NFL draft.

“My bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise & he chose the weak things of the world that he may put to shame the strong!” exclaimed the 57-year-old.

“Please know God ain’t done & God is just really getting started. Enjoy this lesson & stop stressing. #CoachPrime.”

According to the Associated Press, the Tennessee Titans selected Miami quarterback Cam Ward as the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. The Jacksonville Jaguars moved to select 2024 Heisman winner Travis Hunter. Abdul Carter of Penn State was selected third by the New York Giants.

Day 2 of the NFL draft kicks off at 6 p.m. ET on Friday and will be airing on ESPN, ABC, and NFL Network. The Cleveland Browns will begin the night’s festivities with the 1st selection and return for the 4th pick of the second round, presenting two opportunities for Sanders to be selected early as the Ohio-based team is expected to select a quarterback.
