We’ve all heard of “Friendsmas” and even “Friendsgiving” — but Simone I. Smith has done something special with her annual SISMAS holiday celebration, which has now become a national holiday (Dec. 14).
A little over a decade of celebrating sisterhood and genuine friendships, Smith hosted her 2024 holiday party (Cowgirl theme) on Saturday (Dec. 14) in NYC. With delicious soul food, various desserts, drinks, and even a talent/fashion show—the business woman made sure to treat her guests to goodies, all embossed with her eponymous brand name.
Attendees included Mary J. Blige, Justine Simmons and many more who went all-out with their western get up. Smith channeled her inner Yellowstone with a denim patchwork suit, matching wide brim hat, a neck bandana, and of course, a pair of gold hoops from her SIS collection. Mary channeled her inner Cowboy Carter with an all black ensemble embellished with gold accents.
“I have an incredible group of girlfriends—my sister-friends,” Smith told VIBE of the inspiration behind the annual event. “I’ve always been able to maintain my friendships, I even have a friend here from first grade. It’s about celebrating the women in my life.”
What started as annual Christmas trips back home to New York to gather with her girlfriends for home-cooked food, music, a game of left-right and spades—turned into a full-on themed party by year three. “By the time we got to the fifth SISmas, my daughters said ‘let’s do a talent show,’ then we started incorporating the fashion show,” she continued. “Everybody brings it when it comes down to the theme—to out-do the next person.”
Beautifully said, Smith added that she believes she was put on this earth to serve her friends, family and sisters. “It’s all about having a good time and celebrating each other.”
As the night carried on, guests were treated to an open-bar, dinner, donut milkshakes, a 360 photobooth and live DJ who played everything from 90’s R&B to Jersey Club music.
