Sizwe Dhlomo: “A-Reece is not a fully-fledged artist.” In a candid conversation on the L-Tido Podcast, media personality Sizwe Dhlomo offered his insights on A-Reece, describing the rapper as a talented artist but not one who has yet reached his full potential as a commercial force in the South African music scene.

Sizwe Dhlomo: “A-Reece is not a fully-fledged artist”

Sizwe Dhlomo, who has long been a fixture in the South African entertainment industry, praised A-Reece for his undeniable skill but argued that the rapper has not yet evolved into the kind of artist who will push the game forward. “A-Reece is cool, A-Reece is just talented, but he’s not a fully-fledged artist,” Dhlomo said during the interview. “He’s not the guy that’s going to take the game to the next level.”

According to Dhlomo, the distinction between a talented rapper and a game-changing artist lies in the ability to not only create impressive music but also to carry the weight of the industry on one’s shoulders.

He further explained, “You get rappers like that as well, just like a rapper, and then that’s where it ends. They’ve got the technical ability, maybe like a Tumi, for example, but deep down, it’s not even their desire to be that kind of rapper.” Sizwe highlighted that while these artists may excel in technical skills, they often lack the drive for commercial success, a crucial factor for those who aim to dominate the mainstream scene.

Citing South African rap icons like Kwesta, Cassper Nyovest, AKA, and K.O., he stressed that these artists not only have the technical prowess but also the commercial appeal to move the needle in the industry. “When those guys drop a track, everything moves,” he said, noting the level of influence they hold over the game. Sizwe even pointed to the success of groups like Teargas, which played a pivotal role in shaping the local rap landscape.
