Warner Bros. is reportedly planning to remake The Bodyguard, which famously starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.
News of the potential film was first confirmed by Deadline. Set to directed by Sam Wrench, who helmed the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film, and written by Jonathan A. Abrams, fans have expressed their disdain on social media.
“Should of just left this movie alone….. it was already good and a classic,” one person tweeted. Another replied, “NOOOOOOO Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston will always be My Bodyguard for life!!! No one cannot replace them.. EVER!”

While casting for the film has not begun, some have already began to manifest who they’d like to see in the leading roles.
Earlier this week, Tyra Banks shared that she thought it “would be so hot” if Taylor Swift and Idris Elba starred in the remake. Others used Gina Prince-Bythewood’s 2014 romantic drama, Beyond The Lights, as proof that a reimagining of The Bodyguard already exists. So, why keep recycling the same ideas?
The original film, directed by Mick Jackson, centered around former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer (Costner), who reluctantly takes a job as the bodyguard to R&B superstar Rachel Marron (Houston). It went on to become a two-time Oscar nominated film— thanks to “Run to You” and “I Have Nothing”— as the entire soundtrack became the best-selling of all time.
Despite the collective, exasperated sigh about the thought of Hollywood ruining this classic with an unnecessary revival, VIBE took it upon ourselves to propose who we want to see retell the story of Rachel and Frank. Ready to argue?

Danielle Brooks And Brian Tyree Henry
Image Credit: Chad Salvador/WWD via Getty Images; JC Olivera/Deadline via Getty Images Danielle Brooks is an incredible actress. She can sing, but we’re more concerned about her chemistry with Brian Tyree Henry. They would make such a stunning couple and can fully replicate the deep yearning and intensified connection Houston and Costner created. With them, we can see the film being directed Stella Meghie, whose the visionary behind The Photograph (2020).

Teyana Taylor And Aaron Pierre

We’d love seeing a softer side of the A Thousand And One star as the British heartthrob uses his intense stature — as seen in Rebel Ridge— to protect her while falling in love.

Ryan Destiny And Freddy Miyares
Image Credit: JC Olivera/Variety via Getty Images; David Livingston/Getty Images Ryan Destiny can sing her butt off and knows how to take down a stalker— as seen on Star. Pair that with Freddy Miyares’ sultry but stern nature, we see nothing but a winning combination.
Miyares is best known for roles in When They See Us, The L Word: Generation Q, and Grey’s Anatomy. If we’re going to redo The Bodyguard, might as well do it with some fresh, albeit familiar faces.

Halle Bailey And Trevante Rhodes
Image Credit: Leon Bennett/GA/The Hollywood Reporter via Getty Images; Gilbert Flores/Variety/Penske Media via Getty Images Halle Bailey‘s name has already been brought up quite a few times after news of the remake surfaced. Fans even drove their point home by reminding folks of her “I Have Nothing” cover. Though many would love to see her reunite with her Little Mermaid co-star, Jonah Hauer-King, we think she’d be better suited to star alongside the delectable Trevante Rhodes.
While some still find issue with his Mea Culpa performance, you can’t deny that Trevante and Halle’s chemistry would spark some level of butterflies.

Beyoncé And Julius De Boer
Image Credit: Gilbert Flores/Variety via Getty Images; Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images for Audemars Piguet Let’s be honest about something: we’re all obsessed with Julius.
For decades, the Hive has lusted and swooned over the consummate professional, but that doesn’t stop them from conjuring up whimsical lore about these two. For all intents and purposes, he is the real life Frank Farmer and she’s Rachel Marron.
Case in point? The 2025 Grammys. After finally winning the coveted Album of the Year, fans hypothesized that Julius was more protective than usual because The Carters had been receiving death threats. Remember that scene in The Bodyguard when Rachel’s stalker attempted to assassinate her at the Academy Awards?
We don’t play about Bey and neither does Julius. Never have. Never will. With that said, the only Bodyguard remake we really care about is the story between these two.
