Trey Songz will soon be handing over a large sum of cash, as he has been ordered to pay $11 million for the battery of a police officer connected to an incident in 2021.
TMZ obtained court documents detailing that Tyrelle Dunn, a police officer in the Maryland capitol, is owed the money due to injuries he sustained at the hands of the 39-year-old singer. Allegedly, the “Bottoms Up” artist welcomed a group of women to his Las Vegas hotel room in 2021 to celebrate his 37th birthday. Dunn’s wife was a part of that group.
She was allegedly held against her will and screamed for help due to her inability to leave, which prompted Dunn to try and save her. Dunn was allegedly attacked by Songz and his security and suffered fractured eye sockets and scarring. The injuries were reportedly enough to keep him away from work.
Trey Songz was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing, but Tyrelle Dunn continued to pursue civil litigation. Songz reportedly went silent on him and a judge ruled in Dunn’s favor, yielding him the $11 million in damages. These will cover his previous medical expenses, pain and suffering, and of course, be punitive toward the three-time Grammy nominee.
This is the latest in what has been a year full of legal ordeals for the Petersburg, VA. artist. In April, he settled a $25 million lawsuit surrounding allegedly raping a woman at a party in 2016. He was also accused of gender violence, false imprisonment, and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
“The settlement agreement conditions dismissal of this matter on the satisfactory completion of specified terms that are not to be performed within 45 days of the date of the settlement,” he said in a statement reported by Radar Online. “A request for dismissal will be filed no later than June 10, 2024.”
