Fans rooting for Chicago club dancer Kimmie, as portrayed by Taylor Polidore Williams in Tyler Perry‘s Beauty In Black, will get to see her story continue. Netflix announced the drama series will return for a second installment as the first season debuted its finale. According to the streamer, Tyler Perry’s Beauty In Black Part 1 spent 4 weeks ranked in the top 10 on the platform, and in its second week was No. 1 across 28 countries.
Part 2, which was released last week, ended with a cliffhanger foreshadowing a new future for Kimmie. Season 2 will also be released in two parts.
“We left fans on the edge of their seats at the end of Season 1, and we’re thrilled to continue Kimmie’s journey as she steps into her power as the newest member of the Bellarie family,” Perry shared with Netflix’s editorial site Tudum. “Kimmie exemplifies the spirit of never underestimating the underdog, and I can’t wait for fans to continue to see her story unfold. If you thought Season 1 was a wild ride, you’re not ready for Season 2.”
According to the official series description, Tyler Perry’s Beauty In Black “follows two women leading very different lives. While Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out, and Mallory (Crystle Stewart) is running a successful business, they find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.”
Perry serves as the creator, writer, director, and executive producer of the show.
Alongside Stewart and Williams, the Tyler Perry’s Beauty In Black cast also features Amber Reign Smith, Ricco Ross, Debbi Morgan, Richard Lawson, Steven G. Norfleet, Julian Horton, Terrell Carter, Shannon Wallace, Bryan Tanaka, Joy Rovaris, Xavier Smalls, Charles Malik Whitfield, Tamera “Tee” Kissen, Ursula O. Robinson, Ashley Versher, George Middlebrook and Ts Madison.
“She’s desperate for a way out,” shared Williams with Tudum of her leading role. “She has dreams, she’s inspired to be more, but she’s both physically and mentally trapped. We watch her get pushed to her absolute breaking point through all of Part 1. By the end of the season, Kimmie is on the verge of discovering a whole new level of power.”
Also coming soon to Netflix from Tyler Perry are Madea’s Destination Wedding, new comedy series She The People, Straw starring Taraji P. Henson, and the faith-based film R&B.
