  • Verydarkman launched a full-blown offensive against Mercy Chinwo, laid out his evidence with unshaken confidence in her feud with her ex-manager.
  • The singer has fired back with a lawsuit, a decisive move that could turn the tide and leave the activist bracing for the storm ahead.

Gospel sensation Mercy Chinwo has taken the legal gloves off, slamming social media firebrand VeryDarkMan (VDM) with a lawsuit for alleged defamation.

Last month, VDM set Instagram ablaze with claims that Chinwo pocketed funds from shows without remitting them to her former label, run by Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, aka EeZee Tee. He further accused her of breaching contractual agreements before severing ties with the label.

But the gospel powerhouse is not letting the accusations slide. In a lawsuit dated March 3 and drafted by her lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Chinwo charged VDM with making “libelous, malicious, spiteful, malevolent, and grossly defamatory” statements aimed at tarnishing her name.

Olajengbesi argued that VDM, an outsider to the dispute between Chinwo and EeZee Tee, inserted himself into the matter with reckless claims that painted the singer in a damaging light.

“The claimant avers that she has neither had any form of relationship with the defendant nor was the defendant involved in the issue between the claimant and EeZee T in any material particular,” the lawyer said.

“The claimant avers that the statements which the defendant made in the videos he published his Instagram page were as though the defendant was personally involved in the issues between the claimant and EeZee T.

“However, these statements were not only false, but damning and injurious to the claimant’s public image and reputation.”

Now, the stakes are high. Chinwo is demanding a staggering N1 billion in general damages, an additional N100 million in punitive and aggravated damages, and N25 million to cover legal costs.

She is also pushing for a court order compelling VDM to erase the alleged defamatory posts, issue a public apology, and publish retractions in four national newspapers for 14 straight days.
