Wizkid’s ‘Morayo’ breaks record, occupies top 17 on Apple Music hours after release

  • Wizkid’s newly released Morayo album has continued to make headlines on social media
  • Only a few hours after the release of the body of work, it has dominated all top 17 spots on Apple Music chart.

Nigerian singer Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid’s Morayo album, has taken over the top 17 spots on Apple Music.

The Star Boy released his highly anticipated album in the wee hours of Friday November 22, 2024, and barely 12 hours after its release, it has broken records.

A few hours after Morayo’s release, it reached the milestone on Apple Music.

Morayo album is a tribute to Wizkid’s late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun, who died in August 2023.

Recall ‘Piece of My Heart’ a lead single from the album climbed No. 4 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and No. 7 on the World Digital Song Sales chart.

Morayo also shattered Nigeria’s streaming records, with one of its singles ‘Kese (Dance) amassing 1.57 million streams on Spotify on its opening day.

On November 18, prior to the album release, the Nigerian Grammy-winning artiste, unveiled the tracklist for ‘Morayo’.

In the tracklist, released late on Monday, the singer features artistes like Asake, Brent Faiyaz, Jazmine Sullivan, Anaïs, and Tiakola.

The album comprises 16 tracks including, ‘Troubled Mind’, ‘Karamo’, ‘Kese (Dance)’, ‘Bad Girl’, ‘Time’, ‘Piece of My Heart’, ‘Break Me Down’, ‘Bend’, and ‘A Million Blessings’.

Others are ‘Après Minuit’, ‘Bad for You’, ‘Soji’, ‘Don’t Care’, ‘Slow’, ‘Lose’, and ‘Pray’.

Wizkid earlier released ‘Kese Dance’ and ‘Piece of My Heart’, a collaborative project with an American singer-songwriter, Brent Faiyaz.

Born in Surulere on July 16, 1990, Wizkid grew up in a polygamous home with a Muslim father and a Christian mother.

In December, Wizkid released his latest musical project, the “Soundman Vol. 2” EP.

The four-tracks project includes vibrant collaborations with industry heavyweights Wande Coal and Zlatan Ibile.

He has released four additional albums including, ‘Ayo’ in 2014, ‘Sound From The Other Side’ in 2017.

Notably, ‘Soundman Vol. 1’ was released in December 2019. ‘Made In Lagos’ in 2020, and ‘More Love, Less Ego’ in 2022.

The singer has also received numerous recognitions, including a Grammy Award in 2021 for his collaboration with Beyoncé on the hit song ‘Brown Skin Girl’.

Made In Lagos’ was recently announced as the most streamed Nigerian album on Apple Music.
